Newbridge Spring News 2008
We have seen a very wet start to the year followed by an unusually cold and sunny February. I hope you all managed to get your seed potatoes chitted and planted before we sell out. Last year saw a huge demand for vegetable seeds and plants, with organic gardening on everyone’s mind. I am awaiting the new vegetable plant varieties from Franchi (our Italian vegetable seed specialist in May) with excitement. New interesting selections from Johnsons and Mr Fothergills are now in stock.
What’s next? Throughout the past year I have been visiting Garden Centres looking at their restaurant operations trying to get some ideas for Newbridge Nurseries. With the help of my local planning consultant, garden centre designer and catering specialists, it’s very important to get the location and size right from the start. I have then commissioned a local architect to take our findings and design something suitable in which to approach the local council with. This is the stage we have reached at the moment. All the up to date news will be released as it happens to the online news

We shall be leaving Newbridge Wednesday morning and stopping at one of the countries leading Garden centres and Stately Homes and Gardens on the way. Thursday will be spent at the show before leaving late after noon arriving back at Newbridge approximately 9pm.
The cost of £150 per person will include: Travel by air conditioned executive coach: Entry into the flower show and gardens. Dinner, bed and breakfast at the elegant 19th Century Shrigley Hall Hotel (4-star) set in 262 acres of Cheshire countryside, complete with its own championship golf-course and spa, on the edge of the picturesque Peak District National Park. There will be a small single room supplement of £22.
I do hope you will be able to join Mike Niemann of Friendship Travel and myself on what I know will be a very
enjoyable trip. |
BBC Southern Counties Radio
BBC SOUTHERN COUNTIES RADIO visited Newbridge recently on Sunday March 9th. Many of you who are regular listeners to the after noon gardening show will no doubt have listened to their outside reporter Jean Grif fin asking me questions. We discussed the Horsham Schools Vegetable growing project and any new plants around the garden centre at the time. We quickly erected a radio up in the Garden Centre for all those customers wishing to hear the show.
I have known Peter Mills the shows gardening expert for well over twenty years and his knowledge in the industry is second to none. He is now able to offer our customers advice on any gardening projects, big or small you may have.
If you are interested in this service from Peter please give me a call and I will foreword on your details to him.
Nursery Open Evenings
Nursery open evenings at Barnsfold Nurseries. Another opportunity to visit our production nursery at Tismans Common on
the Loxwood Road Rudgwick. Come and see thousands of
Hanging Baskets, Bedding and Patio Plants being grown on our
modern six acre Nursery. The most up to date machinery available
to the industry will be on display and demonstrated, followed by a
glass of wine or two. Two evenings have been planned for
Thursday April 17th and Thursday May 15th both star ting at
6.30pm.
Please give the Garden Centre a call to book your free places.
New Pet and Bird Products
Many NEW PET and BIRD products on our shelves in 2008 often start off as customer requests. We are constantly changing our
ranges to appeal to even the most discerning pet so if you can’t find
your favourite amongst our selection, just let us know.
More trolleys arriving this spring, complete with seats for the toddlers and babies. As the garden centre grows we need even more trolleys
for those busy weekends and look out for the new bicycle rack for those
who regularly visit us on two wheels arriving soon.

Garden Furniture
GARDEN FURNITURE from Alexander Rose, Neptune, Nova and Hartman make up our largest garden furniture
display ever. The addition of
the new garden furniture
marquee has meant we will
have over 50 sets on display
this year.

Large stocks of our top selling sets have been secured with our suppliers and so hopefully, the shortages of 2007 will not be repeated. Teak, Textilene, Aluminium, Granite and the new all Weather Weave which is sweeping Europe are present and will be available in 2008. Any
catalogued items can also be obtained from the above companies, making our
selection one of the largest in the south east. |
The Plant Area
The PLANT AREA has taken on a new fresh look for the coming season. Throughout the A-Z Shrub area all the low gravel beds have been replaced
with new easy to shop wooden tables that can be easily moved and make the
area more accessible to trolleys.
Here is just a brief look at some of the new and interesting plant introductions
for the coming season.

Thank You
With your help during December we raised a fantastic total of £1659.00 for our charities The Chestnut Tree Children’s Hospice at Arundel and Macmillan Cancer Relief. Billingshurst Rotary Club, Santa Clause and your generous
donations at The Christmas Tree
wrapping machine were the reason we raised this fantastic total.
